She was born June 16, 1949, in Cuba, N.Y., to John and Dorothy (Clayson) Schoonover. On Sept. 15, 1984, she married Gordon J. Champagne in Allegany, N.Y.
He survives along with one son, Christopher (Sarah) Champagne of Middlebury; two grandchildren; her parents of Olean, N.Y.; one brother, John (Edwardene) Schoonover of Limestone, N.Y.; and two sisters, Patricia (Todd) Smith of Bristol and Denise (Don) Calkins of Allegany.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sasha Champagne, and one sister, Diane Smathers.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday until the Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol. A meal will follow in Annunciation Hall. The Rev. Robert Van Kemphen will officiate. Cremation will follow the Mass, with burial at a later date in New York. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. Champagne was a 1967 graduate of Alleganey High School and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
