ELKHART — Charles T. "Tom" Huffer, 62, of Elkhart, passed away after an extended illness at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 24, 1951, in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Charles M. and Betty Lou (Corwin) Huffer. He married Marlene Knislie in 2001; she survives in Elkhart.
Also surviving are sons Charles (Shirley) and Michael (Jennifer Goodger) Huffer, both of Elkhart; daughters Merranda (Terrell) Wakeman of Elkhart and Georgea-Rae (Christopher) Quick of Fort Carson, Colo.; brother George (Polly) Huffer of Santa Maria, Calif.; sister Kathleen (Dennis) Stone of Nappanee; former spouse, long-time friend and mother of the children, Pollie Quick of Elkhart; and 10 grandchildren.
In accordance with the family's wishes, no services have been planned and Tom's body is to be cremated. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
Tom was a local maintenance engineer who serviced and repaired equipment used in the RV industry.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
