ELKHART — Charles J. Stanley, 93, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born May 7, 1918, in Elkhart to Charles and Mary (Whittaker) Stanley. On June 21, 1947, he married Mary A. (Overholser) Stanley in Elkhart. She passed away June 25, 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel R. Stanley of Indianapolis and Timothy S. Stanley of Elkhart, and two sisters, Gail (Larry) Miller of Elkhart and Marilyn Dickey of Pequot Lakes, Minn.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Rita, Eva, Thelma and Phyllis, and four brothers, Merl, Fred, James and Carl.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked as a press operator with the Elkhart Rubber Works for several years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed making wooden toys, working in his garden and looking at vintage airplane magazines.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Dennis Beckner will officiate. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
