Captain Charles Dennis Nichols, Lord of Eddleston, Scotland, 71, of Elkhart, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in South Bend on September 22, 1951, to the late Charles Dee and Rosella (Mann) Nichols.
Charles was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jenny Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Carol Nichols; children, Christopher Nichols, Mary (Dustin) Tapp, Andrew Nichols, Bradley (Amy) Whalen, and Lisa (Tony) Bails; grandchildren, Mason Bails, Maddy Hall, Tommy Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, Evelyn Dye, McKenna Sharp, Mason Sharp, Logan Miller, and Winter Whalen; three great grandchildren; sister, Sandy Nichols of California; nephew, Mike Copenhaver of California; and his faithful canine companions, Oreo and Cookie.
In accordance with Charles' wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may go directly to the family, c/o Andrew Nichols, to help alleviate funeral expenses.
Charles was a kind, funny, smart, caring, hardworking, dependable, compassionate, and faithful man. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and later in the Army National Guard for many years and would later marry Carol Mamoran on December 31, 1997. Charles worked for Norco Industries in Elkhart as a plant supervisor. He later served as a faithful ordained pastor where he taught the words of Jesus Christ.
In his spare time, Charles loved working out in his yard. He always had a good sense of humor, often sharing a joke and a smile with others. Charles' greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
