ELKHART: Charles E. "John" Fields, 88, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart. John was born on April 18, 1929 in Goshen to the late Merrill and Crystal (Myers) Fields. He married Dora Nell Wardwell on April 7, 1950 in Marion. She passed away after 61 years of marriage on October 23, 2011. Survivors include two sons, John J. Fields, Sam (Cathy) Fields; eight grandchildren; a brother Ernest (Isabelle) Fields and 2 sister's Donna Belle and Iva "Toot". In addition to his parents and wife Dora, a daughter Cynthia Lee Carlton preceded him in death.  John worked as a mechanic at Battjes Pontiac for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge, and Central Christian Church. He was an avid collector of Pez dispensers.  John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, Friday, February 9, 2017at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, where funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm.
