Charles A. "Charlie" Shroyer, of Goshen, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on May 9, 1959, in Sturgis, MI to the late Charles Everett and Elinor Ruth (White) Shroyer.
Charlie is also preceded in death by his siblings, Bradford "Brad" Shroyer and Kathy Shroyer. He is survived by his brother Donald "Boo" Trueblood; his children, Travis (Randi) Laughman, Caitlin (Laughman) McNally, Courtney (Laughman) Brackin, Carly Shroyer, Joseph "Joe" (Riley) Shroyer, and Seth (Hannah) Shroyer; granddaughters, Freyja and Francesca "Frankie" Wisinski; nephews, Ryan (McKenna) Shroyer, Jacob "Jake" (Milena) Mazurek, and Harley (Katelynn) Trueblood; and nieces, Erin (Derek) Hann and Jill (Rick) Weiss. Charlie loved and admired his family deeply.
In accordance with Charlie's wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. A private family scattering service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to K9's for Warriors, 114 Camp K9 Road, Ponte Vedra, Fl 32081.
Charlie was a hardworking man who took pride in his construction work for over 30 years, and in retirement loved learning more about architecture. He served proudly in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne for 3 years and was a member of the NRA. Charlie was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed using his carpentry skills to create specialty woodworks, fly tying, fishing, and deer hunting with his children. He was an avid guitar and gun collector as well, his prized possession being a Uberti 1873. He loved listening to the blues and classic songs by Willie Nelson, The Eagles, and Eric Clapton. Charlie was a writer and also enjoyed reading the works of Ernest Hemingway and Jack London, his favorite story being the Big Two-Hearted River. He loved taking his children out on camping trips and looked forward to sky diving when he could, especially after his time in the Army. Charlie will be deeply missed and forever loved.
