ELKHART — Catherine A. Kelley, 75, of Elkhart, passed away in her home from natural causes at 7 a.m. Dec. 8, 2013.
She was born in Elkhart on Nov. 19, 1938, to the late Paul and Carolyn (Strong) Smith.
She married Alfred N. Kelley on Dec. 9, 1957, in Elkhart, where he passed away in 1997.
Surviving are her sons, Calvin (Junella) Kelley and Greg Sherer, daughter Vivian (Melinda Bliss) Kelley and sister Georgia (Kenneth) Lacefield, all of Elkhart, as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Al, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Matheson, and sisters Phyllis Kalb, Sharon Smith and Barbara Mumford.
In accordance with Catherine's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Pastor Janell Bloerm, chaplain of Grace Hospice of Indiana LLC, will officiate.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Catherine spent more than 30 years employed as a seamstress at Mark 4 Draperies of Elkhart until her retirement. She was very family oriented and enjoyed participating in activities that involved them. While her husband, Al, was alive, she would often accompany him on cross-country trips in his semi, as well as attend auto races that Al, their son and their grandson would compete in. During her later years she enjoyed spending time with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
