June 9, 1925 - April 7, 2012

ELKHART — Carroll Byron Simonson, 86, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday morning, April 7, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born on June 9, 1925, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Sigwell and Emma (Groat) Simonson Sr.

Surviving are his daughters Carol Lynn (Jim) Howard of Mason, Ohio, and Susan Butler of Elkhart; six grandchildren; his companion Betty Bucci of Elkhart; nephews Roger (Eileen), Marvin (Martha), Alan (Connie) and Fred (Sandy) Simonson and Mitch (Brenda) and Cliff (Mary) Dittman; and niece Linda (Rick) Severns.

Preceding him in death were his wife Maria "Marta" Simonson, son Stanley Jay Simonson and a brother, Sigwell Simonson Jr.

Carroll was the former owner and operator in the 1960s of Plastimatic Arts Corp., in Elkhart, Bressler's 33 Flavors in the Town & Country Shopping Center and Budget Advertising in Elkhart. He also worked at the Elkhart post office.

Carroll was known to be very organized and meticulous. He enjoyed reading, gardening and playing euchre and was a member of Elkhart Moose Lodge 599.

Services to celebrate the life of Carroll Simonson will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate.

Visitation with the family will start at 6 p.m.

Cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Service with burial at a later date in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
