ELKHART -- Carolyn J.Salo, 69, of Elkhart, died in Hospice House of Elkhart at 7:05 a.m. Monday (June 1, 2009) after an extended illness.

She was born March 3, 1940, to Albert and Mildred (Hart) Hoffman, in Cassopolis, Mich. On Nov. 7, 1970, she married Norman "Norm" Salo in Roseland.

He survives, along with one daughter, Sheryl L. "Sheri" Korovesis of Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Lois D. and Sheila D. Salo, both of Phoenix; a stepson, M. Erick (Bambi) Salo of Niles, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Holdeman of Union, Mich., and Mary Lou Chilik of Chicago; two brothers, James (Caroline) Hoffman of Elkhart and David (Mary Ann) Hoffman of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by twin sons who died in infancy; a sister, Alice Binkley; and her first husband, Wayne M. Bell.

Mrs. Salo worked for more than 25 years as an executive assistant to the auditing controller for Bayer Corp. in Elkhart. She enjoyed traveling to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., and Branson, Mo. She also liked working in her yard and flower garden and was an animal lover.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to Thursday's 11 a.m. funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Cremation will follow.
