ELKHART -- Carol Ann Schueneman, 65, of Broadway Boulevard, died at 6:36 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 17, 2006) in Elkhart General Hospital, after a short illness.

She was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Coloma, Mich., to Edward Leo and Lillian Agnes (Oehlhaffen) Carmody. She is survived by one son, Lt. Col. Richard A. (LeAnn) Schueneman of Forest Hill, Md.; four daughters, Kathy (Kirk) Christensen of Veyrier, Switzerland, Therese (Bill) Hawkins of Columbus, JoAnn (Karl) Gordon of Quinton, Va., and Janice (Richard) Fuller of Avondale, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Elsie) Carmody of Chandler, Ariz.; one sister, Pat (Dan) Conway of Oshtemo, Mich.; and her former husband, Richard A. Schueneman of Benton Harbor, Mich.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou McCain.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Thursday Mass of Christian burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Phil DeVolder will officiate and cremation will follow the Mass. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Watervliet, Mich. A vigil service will be at 4 p.m. and a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ms. Schueneman was a registered nurse at Elkhart General Hospital for 35 years and formerly worked at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She was a 1958 graduate of St. John's High School in Benton Harbor and a 1961 graduate of Borgess School of Nursing, Kalamazoo, Mich. She was a member and Eucharist Minister at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Ms. Schueneman had many interests, including cooking, shopping, sewing, making crafts, gardening and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She cared for animals and enjoyed being with her dogs. She was a former Bristol resident for many years and her family operated the Schueneman Family Cider Mill, making fresh apple cider from its own orchards.
