Obituary

ELKHART — Carolyn M. Hoeppner, 78, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 14, at the Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart following an extended illness.

She was born May 8, 1938, in Granger, to the late Walter and Grace (Artley) Schuelke.

She went on to marry Bruce L. Hoeppner on Dec. 13, 1958, in Elkhart. He survives her at home.

Also surviving are her sons, Scott (Kathy) Hoeppner of Sarasota, Fla., Timothy (Robin) Hoeppner of Elkhart and Jeff (Lori) Hoeppner of Goshen; daughters Jennifer Hoeppner of Elkhart and Susan (Jeff) Yarbrough of Watkinsville, Ga.; her sister, Jo Ellen (Richard) Delp of Union, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Brothers Tom and Robert Schuelke preceded Carolyn in death, along with an infant sister who died at birth.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Carolyn's life will begin with a viewing at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on  from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 18548 C.R. 18, Goshen. Visitation there will begin one hour prior. Pastor Andrew Wollman will officiate and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.

Carolyn spent many years as an administrative assistant for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart. She loved bowling, fishing, golf, playing cards and meeting with her "Dorcus Darlings" ladies' circle at church. She never knew a stranger and, much to her character, befriended nearly everyone she met. She was generally a happy lady whose beautiful smile would brighten up any room. She also enjoyed going on cruises and spending time with her family and friends.

Additionally, the family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Eastlake Nursing Facility and the dedicated nurses at Harbor Lights Hospice for their 24-hour dedicated care that they provided to our Carolyn.

Memorial donations may be given to Harbor Lights Hospice, 1608 Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545, or to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund.
