Carol L. Cornish

Carol L. Cornish, 78, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away peacefully at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 8:39 p.m., following a brief illness. She was born in Elkhart on December 23, 1947, to the late Cecil and Isabelle (Reedy) Hapner.

On July 23, 1966, Carol married the love of her life, Jack R. Cornish, at Mason Township Baptist Church near Edwardsburg. Sixty years later, their love remained as deep and unwavering as it had been on their wedding day. Jack will miss his beloved bride beyond words, but he finds comfort knowing that Carol is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Carol’s faith was the heart of her life. A nearly lifelong member of Mason Township Baptist Church, she loved her church and its congregation with all her heart. Over the decades, she served on boards, assisted wherever she was needed, sang in the choir, served as assistant treasurer, and helped prepare countless meals for funerals and church gatherings. She was not simply a member of the church—she was part of its family, and that family will miss her dearly.

Carol is survived by Jack; her son, Jeff Cornish; brother, Larry Hapner; grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryan Cornish; five great-grandchildren; and a small but cherished circle of extended family and friends.

She also leaves behind a lifetime of memories made through sewing, camping, enjoying the outdoors, making baby quilts and blankets, and escaping Michigan winters for Florida. But perhaps her greatest legacy will be the love she gave—to her husband, her family, and the church she held so dear.

In accordance with Carol’s wishes, cremation will take place, followed by a family-directed memorial service held at Mason Township Baptist Church, 20109 Mason Street, Mason Township, Cass County, Michigan, on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10:00 am. A dinner will follow services at the church. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is assisting Jack with arrangements.
