ELKHART -- Carol Jean Berg, 79, of 333 W. Mishawaka Road, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday (May 30, 2008) at Valley View Health Care Center.

She was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Mishawaka to Franklin and Delia (Cole) Foster. She married Clifford Newland Jr. He preceded her in death. She married Walter R. Berg. He died in 1987.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Sue) Newland of Elkhart; one daughter, Margaret (Robert) Fredrickson of Edwardsburg, Mich.; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce (Jim) Vance of Mishawaka.

Carol was preceded in death by three brothers, Franklin, Donald and Cecil Foster; and one sister, Betty Bill.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Greg Serafino of Osceola Grace Brethren Church is officiating. Burial and a graveside service will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Mrs. Berg was a homemaker and formerly worked for Bell Band Company in Mishawaka. She was a member of the Baugo Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and formerly played powder-puff little league. She was an avid Bingo player and a devoted mother and grandmother.
