ELKHART — Mrs. Carmen C. Torres, 96, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at 10:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Elkhart.
She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, Jan. 8, 1920, to the late Lola Martinez. She married Delfino V. Torres in Mexico City in 1939. He passed away in Elkhart in 2002. She was also preceded by a son, Miguel "Mike" Torres; a daughter-in-law, Janis Torres, and a brother, Javier Martinez.
Surviving are children Victor (Katrina) Torres of Bristol, Rene Torres of Elkhart and Carmen (Harold) Tuttle of Sevierville, Tenn. A host of grand, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren survive as well.
The Mass of Christian burial of Carmen's cremated remains will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. The Rev. Matthew Coonan will officiate and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.
Carmen was a therapy technician at the Simpson Street Clinic for more than 20 years and became quite well-known within the community through the clinic and her membership at St. Vincent's. She also had quite a love for cooking as well.
