He was born in Elkhart on Nov. 14, 1926, to Keith and Ruth (Miller) Nihart. He married June Swinehart on Aug. 20, 1949, in Osceola.

She survives along with three sons, Jeffery (Linda) Nihart and Mitchell Nihart, both of Elkhart, and Stuart Nihart and Ruth Preston of Vandalia, Mich.; a brother, Laural (Deanna) Nihart of Elkhart, five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Harold Nihart, preceded him in death.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Saturday funeral services at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Arthur Janz will officiate. Cremation will follow the services.

Mr. Nihart served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked in the tool and die industry for many years.

He had a longtime passion for hunting and fishing.
