Obituary

NORTH LIBERTY — Carlos Eugene Sloan, 62, of North Liberty, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Sept. 8, 2012, in his home with his family by his side, after an extended illness.

A memorial service for the cremated remains of Carlos will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at South Bend Fire Department's Local 362 IAFF Union Hall, 4025 Lincolnway W., South Bend.

Billings Funeral Home has been assisting the family with arrangements.


July 12, 1950 - Sept. 8, 2012

NORTH LIBERTY — Carlos Eugene Sloan, 62, of North Liberty, passed away in his home with his family by his side at 4:23 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, after an extended illness.

He was born July 12, 1950, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late James M. Sloan and Wilma M. (Watson) Shroyer.

He married Alice F. Warner on Dec. 20, 1974, in Goshen. She survives at home.

Also surviving are a daughter, Machelle L. (Rodney) Leedy of North Liberty; a son, Randy H. (Andrea) Torrence of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and one great grandson.

There will be no viewing. In following with Carlos' wishes, he is to be cremated.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at South Bend Firefighters IAFF Local 362 Union Hall at 4025 Lincolnway West in South Bend, with time for fellowship following the service. Pastor Ken Ringisen of the Just Church of Zephyrhills, Fla., will officiate.

Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.

Carlos was a lifelong carpenter and handyman. He worked many years locally in the RV industry, including Commodore Homes in Syracuse.

He also lived many years in Zephyrhills, where he drove a delivery truck for Florida Mattress Company.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, as well as volunteering his time and skills to help others in his community and within his church. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
