ELKHART — Carl A. Swartzell Jr., 95, of Elkhart, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 2, 2012.
He was born May 4, 1916, in Elkhart, to Carl A. Swartzell Sr. and Erma (Brownell) Swartzell.
On December 9, 1939, he married Mary G. (Billig) Swartzell in Elkhart. She passed away July 7, 1997.
Survivors include three nieces, Judy (Larry) Miller of Indianapolis, Shirley (Terry) Chomer of Elkhart and Que (Mike) Morelli of Goshen; four nephews, Steve, Gary, Danny and Chuck Swartzell, all of Elkhart; and special friend Cindy Holdread of Elkhart.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard W., Jack S. and Robert E. Swartzell.
Carl worked at numerous local tool shops including Foster's and Bendix. He later retired as a toolmaker from CTS in Elkhart.
Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid bowler for many years in various Elkhart and South Bend bowling leagues.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation and a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Rice Cemetery. Pastor Dale Turner will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
