ELKHART -- Carl Robert O'Haver Jr., 84, of Elkhart, died at 3:44 a.m. Friday (Dec. 26, 2008) at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Syracuse to Carl R. Sr. and Mabel P. (Bunger) O'Haver. On Dec. 5, 1954, he married Betty Lou Elliott in LaGrange.
She survives along with three sons, Dana V. O'Haver of Goshen, Carlton E. (Connie Jo) O'Haver Sr. of Elkhart and Ronald V. (Kathy Gurka) O'Haver of Warsaw; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Coy of Syracuse.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Emmett O'Haver; and five sisters, Helen Shock, Pauline Spiecher, Gloria Weaver, Mildred Plank and Eloise Halsey.
Mr. O'Haver worked as an electrician at New Yorker Homes for many years. A graduate of Syracuse High School, he was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1947 to 1955.
He was a member of Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren and enjoyed fishing and camping.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday funeral service at Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, 24955 C.R. 24, Elkhart. Pastor Beth Sollenberger-Morphew will officiate. Burial will be in Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen, with military honors rendered by the Elkhart Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 and the U.S. Navy Honors Burial detail.
