ELKHART -- Carl Lamar Jones, 85, of Elkhart, died at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 27, 2010) in Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Kankakee, Ill., to Bernard and Marie L. (Miner) Jones. He married Mary H. Schmaltz on July 5, 1952, in Angola.

She survives with one nephew, Robert (Sue) Jones of LaGrange and Cindy (Kevin) Loucks of Middlebury.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert H.L. Jones, and two sisters, Helen L. Mathews and Phyllis Eairleywine.

Carl formerly worked at Studebaker Corp. in South Bend and retired in the '70s from Wheelabrator-Frye in Mishawaka, where he worked as a lathe operator. Carl was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Bristol and enjoyed gardening and going to yard and auction sales.

No visitation or services are planned at this time. Cremation will take place, with burial at a later date in Rice Cemetery.
