Carl E. Cora, 76, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at 12:36 pm following a brief illness.
He was born in Sharpsburg, KY on June 11, 1939 to the late John and Ruth (Hawkins) Cora.
Surviving are his sons Carl E. (Kathy) Cora of Elkhart, Mike Cora of South Bend and Jerry Cora of Niles, MI; daughters Maria Alden of Elkhart and Carla Cora of Shelby Twp., MI; step-daughter Cindy Griffith of Rockwood, TN; sister Lucy Culbertson of White Pigeon, MI; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Tiffany M. Belt, sister Virginia Seal and brothers Ewell and John Cora.
The family has scheduled a celebration of Carl's life to be held at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 from 4-6 pm. Following that, cremation is to take place and entombment at the Veterans Towers at Prairie Street Cemetery will be held with military honors at a later date.
Carl worked a lifetime in the local RV industry, but in recent years he worked for Allen Protection Security and was well recognized as the security guard for Flexible Foam in Elkhart. He served honorably with the US Army in Vietnam and will best remembered for his friendly catch phrase "Mighty fine…..mighty fine…"
