Obituary

Mr. Carey N. Osborne, 51, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 1:48 pm following an extended illness. He was born in Mishawaka to the late Florence L. (Larry R.) Coles-Gear and to William S. "Bill" (Sue Schurman) Osborne of Osceola; and had only recently married his lovely bride Chelsie Dawn Nichols. They had been a couple for several years, but officially "tied the knot" on November 27th of this year.

Also surviving Carey are his sons Brandon L. Osborne of Mooresville, NC and Connor M. Osborne who resides at home; daughters Cassandra N. (Brian Jacobs) Osborne of Pensacola, Florida and Caylee D. Osborne, who also lives at home; his brother Joseph J. Apple of Elkhart; sisters Amy L. (Thomas L.) Belcher of Henryville, Emily R. Osborne of Baroda, Michigan and Rebecca A. Apple of Elkhart, and a granddaughter Brianna J. Jacobs. Carey is also survived by a healthy host of extended family, in-laws, out-laws, his crew of homies and rowdy friends, and maybe even a shady character or two. Carey loved just about everyone and didn't really care about what your "pedigree" was when he decided to be your friend or not. Regretfully, Carey is preceded in death by his black lab, Chase, but is happily survived by his pitties Bella and Diesel, along with the feline household overlord and master, Smokey.

In accordance with Carey's wishes, cremation will take place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. No immediate services have been planned but a family get-together in the spring is possible.

While Carey was currently taking an early retirement due to his health, he had been a production worker in the local RV and vehicle manufacturing business for many, many years. He was an avid patriot and loved America to the core. Despite the direction his country seemed to be heading, he always maintained faith in the goodness in people's hearts and believed in the best in everyone.

Carey's altruistic personality saw to it that he would do anything for just about anybody, and he loved to be able to help someone when they really needed it. He loved to spend time with his family as well, and liked to help his dad on special projects, too. His father would comment that Carey always attacked projects with tenacity and a clear work plan, which always helped to make things easier. Carey was no stranger to hard work.

All in all, Carey lived and laughed and loved as well as he could, and appreciated every day that the good Lord gave to him. He had a smile and a laugh that could light up a room, and many friends and family would often count on Carey's presence in their lives in order to keep them going as well. He was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, loved old muscle cars and listening to '70s and '80s rock and watching all of the DIY, home improvement and car shows on TV.

Memorial donations may be given directly to the family, to Carey's GoFundMe page on Facebook, or to the charity of one's choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to read the obit and leave condolences, memories and/or pictures of Carey by clicking "Tribute Wall" on his obituary page on the funeral home's website and then following the prompts.
