He was born Sept. 1, 1940, in Auburn to Arthur L. and Mildred Juanita (Kline) Loutzenhiser. On June 2, 1970, he married Judy M. Brake (Mais) in White Pigeon, Mich.
She survives along with one son, Bruce Mais of Elkhart; two daughters, Velma (Eugene Genard) Gross of Elkhart and Sandy (Charlie) Humphreys-Loutzenhiser of Jasper, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Forest E. Loutzenhiser of Chesapeake, Va., and George W. (Linda) Loutzenhiser of Elkhart; and two sisters, Joann V. (Larry) Dial of Phillipsburg, Mont., and Mary Sue (Bill) Adams of Wakarusa.
He was preceded in death by one son, Karl B. Loutzenhiser, and two brothers, Arthur E. and Garth R. Loutzenhiser.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Tuesday funeral services at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Brian Stutzman of The Omega Center in Elkhart will officiate. Cremation will follow and interment will be at a later date in the Veteran's Towers in the Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
Mr. Loutzenhiser was a U.S. Navy veteran who was employed at Auranco, a Coachmen company, as a supervisor and truck driver. He had been disabled since June 5, 1985. He was a 4-H leader for 11 years, a Cub Scout leader for five years, a member and chief of the Elkhart Civil Defense for 15 years and deputy city director for three years, until becoming disabled. He was active in the Aphasia Support Group in Elkhart, Goshen and South Bend since 1990, and he enjoyed being with his family.
