ELKHART — Burton W. "Burt" Van Wormer, 80, of Elkhart, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Mishawaka, April 20, 1932, to the late Frank Sr. and Ada R. (Lang) Van Wormer.
He is survived by his son, Terry A. (Sonia) Van Wormer of Elkhart; daughters Nancy (Jimmy) Benninghof of Elkhart and Sally (Wayne) Sarnie of Bradenton, Fla.; brother Jack (Pat) Van Wormer of White Pigeon, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Van Wormer and brothers Ted, Les, Ed, Don and Frank Jr. Van Wormer.
Services will be conducted Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart, with a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. and funeral starting at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery, with graveside military honors being rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV 19. Pastor Lee Campbell of New Hope United Methodist Church of Elkhart will officiate.
Burt worked in maintenance at Four Winds RV in Elkhart for many years. He enjoyed shooting pool, camping and tinkering with his Ford Model A and Essex cars. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Alaska.
