Obituary

ELELKHART — Burton E. Tuttle, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, at his home.

Burton was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Beloit, Wis., to Roland B. and Abbie Bell (Jenkins) Tuttle.

He married the love of his life, Linda Sue Quimby, on Sept. 12, 1964, in South Bend.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Linda Sue Tuttle; loving children, Monty (Sherry) Tuttle of Nappanee, Marsha (James) Hall of Elkhart, Jeffery Tuttle of Mishawaka and Julie (Nathan) Steensma of Elkhart; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with two on the way; his siblings, Virginia (Robert) Shearer of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Pete (Carmen) Tuttle of Wears Valley, Tenn., and Dorothy and Sara Tuttle both of Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Roland Tuttle.

Burton was a police officer with the Elkhart Police Department. He retired in 1987 with the rank of captain. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He and Linda were active members of the Apostolic Temple Church, South Bend, working with youth. They continued that ministry and membership at Grace Point Apostolic Church in Osceola. Burton loved fishing and boating, camping and traveling. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa.

Services celebrating the life of Burton Tuttle will begin with a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Grace Point Apostolic Church, 54662 Ash Road, Osceola, followed by a 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, celebration service also at the church, with visitation from 2 p.m. until service time. Pastors Mike Swinehart, Norman Andrews and Jeremy Lower will officiate. The service will conclude with the folding of the flag and playing of taps by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard, and 21- gun salute by the Elkhart Police Department Honor Guard, who stood vigil at the casket during the past two days.
