Burl Bryan Hatfield, 84, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Emergency Room at Elkhart General Hospital. Burl was born on October 19, 1940 in Enterprise, West Virginia, one of three sons born to James Wesley Hatfield and Madge (Edgell) Hatfield.
He married his best friend and true love Linda K. Adams on March 11, 1974. They met while working at Miles. Surviving is his wife of 50 years Linda K. Hatfield; two sons Burl Bryan (Lynn) Hatfield II of Milwaukee, Joel P. (Shari) Hatfield of Granger and his daughter Merilee E. Hatfield of Daytona Beach, Fla.; also surviving are 5 grandchildren, whom he adored, Benaiah (Heather) Hatfield, Zechariah Hatfield, Ezekiel Hatfield, Adah (Thomas) Bradley, Emily Hatfield and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, two brothers Wesley and Kermit Hatfield and his sister LaRoma Payne, preceded him in death.
Burl received his BS from Fairmont State College, Fairmont, WV., and his master's degree in business from Indiana University, South Bend.
Burl was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1969 with the rank of Captain.
Burl worked for Miles Laboratories as a chemist for 18 years. He then worked for Prudential Financial in sales for many years and retired from the South Bend Medical Foundation as a courier after many years of service. He was a longtime and active member of the California Road Missionary Church, where he served as a deacon, usher, and greeter.
Burl liked to be active and enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and fishing. He has also donated blood since 1969! He was also a big Notre Dame football fan as well. Most of all, Burl's family and the Lord were the center of his life.
Services celebrating the life of Burl B. Hatfield will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025 at California Road Missionary Church, 29765 CR 12, Elkhart. Friends may call from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Shayne Looper will officiate. Immediately after the service, and outside the church, military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force Base Honor Guard and the EVHG.
Burial will follow across the street at California Road Cemetery. The family kindly request memorial donations in Burl's name to the church he loved and supported.
