Nov. 29, 1948 - Sept. 28, 2012

GRANGER — Bruce Allan Harris, 63, of Granger, passed away Friday Sept. 28, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 29, 1948, in Goshen to Robert L. and Evelyn (Hunsberger) Harris.

Surviving are a son, Brian Maurer of Elkhart; father Robert L. Harris of Granger; sisters Dixie Harris of Granger and Gail (Terry) Graverson of Bremen; a brother, Ricki Andrews of Bremen; and several nieces and nephews.

His mother, Evelyn Harris, and a sister, Gloria Haeck, preceded him in death.

Bruce was a 1967 graduate of Elkhart High School. He joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years until his honorable discharge in 1971.

He went to work for Miles Laboratories and CTS in Elkhart and North Carolina. He then joined a group that started Data Trek. It closed down. He then went to Skyline Mobile Homes, U.S. Business and Alick's Home Medical as a delivery driver until his disability retirement.

He also worked part time as a bartender in the 70s at Matterhorn in Elkhart, River Inn in Bristol and Cappy's Northside in Elkhart.

He was a coach and past president of Bristol Little League and coached at Cleveland and Osolo Little League and the Memorial High School girls softball team in the '90s.

He was an officer in the Bristol Jaycee's and a member of the Bristol Conservation Club and Bristol American Legion.

Friends may call for two hours prior to a 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, celebration of life service at Adamsville Road Church of God, 51287 C.R. 7, Elkhart. Pastor Gary Ausbun will officiate.

The evening will conclude with folding and presentation of the flag and playing taps by the U.S. Navy Honor Burial Detail.

Arrangements for Bruce are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the church.
