Bruce Eugene Ducat, 67, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the University of Chicago Medicine. He was born in Bowling Green, OH on January 15, 1958, to the late Burnell and Lola (Capelle) Ducat.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Deborah (Gonder) Ducat; his children; Kristopher, Kimberly, Annie, Raia, and Taylor; 4 brothers; a sister; and his nephew, Tom along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. In Elkhart. In accordance with Bruce's wishes, no services will be held at this time.

Bruce was a hardworking and kind man who put his family's needs first before his own. He worked as a carpenter for many years with a specialty in building decks, which he not only created for his job but also for friends and others in need. Bruce was a talented woodworker and could do just about anything when it came to remodeling houses and restoring old furniture. He had a real gift for bringing to life whatever you could visualize on paper. Bruce's greatest accomplishment was restoring and remodeling an 1893 farmhouse from the ground up for his family to live in while they were in Big Rapids, MI.

He was a caring father and became a foster father for many children over the years. Bruce loved being able to help them reach their full potential by giving them a safe and loving home. He had been an active member of the United Church in Big Rapids, MI where he did a lot of custodial work and repair. In his spare time, Bruce enjoyed taking spontaneous road trips out of town with his family and loved visiting casinos with his wife. Especially when they could visit Las Vegas together.

Words cannot express how much Bruce will be missed by his loving family, friends, and community. The outpouring of love the family has received after he was called home has shown us how incredible he was as a person for so many throughout his life. Thank you, Bruce, for being an amazing husband, father, and friend.
