ELKHART — Braxton Issac "Smurf" Barhams, 16, of Elkhart, passed away at 7:38 p.m. at Elkhart General Hospital, after falling victim to a shooting near his home, Saturday, June 29, 2013.
He was born in Elkhart on Nov. 4, 1996, to Jeanette (Pointer) Barhams Dancler and Kenneth W. Barhams, both of Elkhart.
Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Brandon Barhams of Indianapolis and Julius Barhams and Wesley Dancler, both of Elkhart; and grandparents George and Mary Ann Neal of Elkhart. He is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Gladys Pointer and Frank Potts.
A celebration of Braxton's life will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at AGAPE Missionary Baptist Church, 248 W. Wolf Ave., in Elkhart. A viewing will also be there for one hour prior. In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation is to take place following the service. AGAPE's pastor, the Rev. Dannell Brown, Ph.D, will officiate.
Services have been entrusted to Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Smurf would have been a Junior at Concord High School. He was a fun-loving, outgoing kid who loved to be around people, especially his friends. He loved basketball and could always be found at the Tolson Center or other local ball courts shooting hoops. He also enjoyed rapping with his friends, watching the Miami Heat play ball and keeping in style with his latest Mitchell & Ness Snap-Back hat and matching kicks.
