Obituary

Bonita J. "Bonnie" (Huber) Farnham Bonita J. "Bonnie" (Huber) Farnham, 76, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully and quietly on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:47 a.m. at Goshen General Hospital, with the grace and dignity she carried throughout her life. She had been in ill health, but her spirit remained unshaken to the very end.

Bonnie was born on November 19, 1948, in Montpelier, Idaho, to the late William A. and Gertrude (Brautigaum) Huber. She grew up with a sense of kindness and humility woven into her nature, lessons instilled by her family that she carried into every interaction she had throughout her life.

On May 21, 1974, in Elkhart, Bonnie married David E. "Dave" Farnham, the absolute love of her life. With her typical sense of humor, she would tell people that she liked him so much she decided to keep him—holding his hand and heart for more than 40 years until his passing in December of 2015. Their love was a true partnership, grounded in loyalty, laughter, mutual respect, and the shared values that made their life together both steady and beautiful.

Bonnie was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry L. Knight, Jr., and by a granddaughter, Courtney Troyer. Though these losses weighed heavily on her heart, Bonnie carried them with courage and chose, as always, to move forward with love rather than bitterness.

Surviving are two brothers, along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her as family.

Bonnie worked for many years in the community at area dry cleaners including Jaxon, Executive, Key, and Personalized Services. Hers was a familiar, welcoming face—customers often remembered her more for her cheerful greetings and heartfelt conversations than for the pressed shirts and cleaned garments they carried out the door. For Bonnie, work wasn't simply a job, it was another opportunity to connect with people, brighten their day, and remind them that life was meant to be shared with kindness.

Anyone who met Bonnie could attest to her radiant presence. She had a smile that didn't just light up a room—it reached right into your heart. She possessed the rare ability to make anyone feel important, seen, and valued. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone she was meeting for the first time, Bonnie had a way of making you feel like you belonged. Her graciousness was never forced, but a natural outpouring of who she was at her core.

Bonnie was a proud and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1974, a journey that shaped her into the strong, compassionate woman she was. Her beloved Dave shared that same path, and together they leaned on the principles of faith, honesty, and service that helped them build a marriage and life filled with gratitude. Many who knew her from those rooms will remember her for her honesty, her humor, and the way she carried herself with courage and humility—living proof of the power of redemption and grace.

Bonnie's patriotism also shone through her loyalty to David, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. She stood behind him unwaveringly, supporting his love of country and embracing his brothers- and sisters-in-arms as her own extended family. Her generosity toward veterans' causes reflected not only her respect for David's service, but her deep belief in honoring sacrifice and lifting up others.

Her life was not measured by riches or accolades, but by the countless people who will carry her memory in their hearts. She believed in laughter, in second chances, in forgiveness, and in treating others with respect. Her humanity was genuine and disarming, and it made her unforgettable.

In accordance with her wishes, Bonnie will be cremated with the assistance of her longtime friends at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. Her remains will then be laid to rest in Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen, beside her beloved Dave, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 11:00 am. A small committal service will be conducted by her dear friend, Funeral Director Jo B. Johnston, who, like so many others, was honored to know and love Bonnie.

Memorial donations in Bonnie's name may be given to the Center for Hospice Care or to the Wounded Warrior Project—causes that reflect the compassion and loyalty that defined her life.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember her not only for her bright smile and tender heart, but for her unbreakable spirit, her love of family, her devotion to Dave, and her quiet yet powerful way of making the world just a little bit better for everyone around her.
