ELKHART- Bobby G. Hatley, 79, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, February 22nd at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He was born February 5, 1937 in Albemarle, NC to Martin L. and Eva (Harkey) Hatley. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
On June 11, 1961 he married the love of his life, Judith R. (Beckner) Hatley at Christ Episcopal Church in Danville, VA. He is survived by his wife, Judith R. (Beckner) Hatley of Elkhart; one son, Mark R. (Catherine) Hatley of Bristol; one daughter, Anne (Mark) Reverman of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Taylor, Alexander, and Nicholas Reverman, all of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a 1954 graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, VA and attended NC State University in Raleigh, NC. He proudly served in the US Army from May 1960 until March 1966 when he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant.
Bob worked as an accountant/corporate controller for more than 50 years having been employed by Southern Railway, A.M. Pullen and Company, The Commodore Corporation and most recently, HandCrafted Homes in Henderson, NC until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church where he has been actively involved as Treasurer, lay reader, Lay Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Vestry, Finance, and Search Committees. He served as Senior Warden at Christ Episcopal Church in Danville, VA, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, SC, and St. John's Episcopal Church in Henderson, NC as well. Bob was also a member of Goshen DAV Chapter 15, American Legion Post 30, and the Goshen Moose Lodge 836.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11:00 AM celebration of life service on Saturday, February 27th at St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church, 601 E. Vistula Street, Bristol, IN 46507. The Reverend Jennifer Fulton will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church in memory of Bob.
