ELKHART — Billy W. Rucker, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, March 2, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born April 19, 1943, in Hugheston, W.Va., to James and Betty (Hatney) Rucker.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dorothy "Dottie" Rucker of Elkhart; one daughter, Christina (Blake) Manley of Elkhart; one son, Joseph (Charity) Rucker of Elkhart; three brothers, Delbert Rucker of Hugheston, Ralph Rucker of North Carolina and Omar (Judy) Rucker of Kentucky; three sisters, Louise Wiseman of Oak Hill, W.Va., Nancy (Jerry) Barnett of Shrewsbury, W.Va., and Glada (Ralph) Callender of Oak Hill; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Fred Rucker, and three sisters, Mildred Milner, Marie Orler and Elsie Balser.
Billy proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was later employed at Conn-Selmer Inc. for more than 44 years prior to his retirement. He was a longtime member of Elkhart DAV 19.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, and for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. Thursday, March 5, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will take place in Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
