UNION, Mich. — Billy "Senator" Horvath, 61, residing on Baldwin Lake, Union, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Billy was born on Sept. 30, 1950, in East Chicago, Ind., to Joseph Alexander and Mildred (Rajacich) Horvath.
Surviving are his children, Erika (Cory) Damm of Evansville, Ind., Sarah (Nick) DeSabatine of Fishers, Ind., Anna (Brandon) Burtsfield of South Bend, Ind., and his son, Billy Horvath of Fishers; three grandchildren, Ingrid and Lincoln Damm and Nadia DeSabatine, and a soon to be expected "Burtsfield" grandson. Also surviving are his mother, Mildred Horvath of Hammond, Ind.; sisters Dorothy (Bill) Woods of Sterling Heights and Betty Mitvosky of Hammond; his former wife, Gretchen Horvath of Elkhart, Ind.; and his faithful golden retriever, Gypsy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Horvath, and stepfather Nikola "Stadi" Mitvosky.
Billy was a graduate of Indiana State University.
He enjoyed all sports and loved being outdoors or on the lake, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family for two hours prior to the service to celebrate his life at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Michael Sawyer will officiate. In keeping with his wishes a private family visitation will be held.
