Mrs. Beverly June "Bev" Schaefer, 88, of Elkhart, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 3:53 pm. She was born in Bourbon on June 3, 1935 to the late Condie A. and Laura F. (Seymour) Eaglebarger. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, David F. Schaefer, who passed in Elkhart in 1994, and her siblings Joanna, Virginia and Joseph. Bev is survived by her sons David M. "Mike" Schaefer of Fort Wayne IN and Robert D. "Bob" Schaefer of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Diane M. ( James E.) Boal of Elkhart and Lori B (Tim) Schmidt of Palatine, IL; sister Laura Mae Berg of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren Kendra Fay, Brad and Paul Schmidt, Joseph and Christina Boal; and great grandchildren June, Ruben, Iris and Ezra Fay; as well as a loving host of extended family and good friends. Bev was a lifetime employee at Walerko Tool & Engineering of Elkhart, retiring after 45 years of service. She was a kind-hearted person who loved to read, enjoyed fellowship playing cards and games and was very active in supporting women's organizations throughout her life. Whether it was through organized programs like Al-Anon or just through a friendly conversation, many found solace engaging with Bev and her therapeutic ways of conversation and interaction.
