ELKHART — Beverly Jean "Bev" Spirito, 77, of Elkhart, passed away in the afternoon on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1934, in South Bend to the late Vincent J. and Vivian Irene (Rhodes) Niesen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother Frank L. Niesen.
She married Joseph D. Spirito on June 13, 1953, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He survives, as do son Vincent J. (Debra) Spirito and daughters Cristy A. (Brett) Eldridge and Stacy A. Romero, all of Elkhart. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Amey, Alissa, Ashley, Courtney, Nicholas, Michael and Marissa, and three great-grandchildren, Brody, Mya and Kendall, who all loving referred to her as Nana.
Beverly was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her heart was full of love for her family. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 1952 graduate of Elkhart High School. Bev was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching them, as well as other sports on television. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo and bowling. She will remain forever in the hearts of her family.
Friends may call for one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart. Father Bill Sullivan will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family's preferred memorials are to ADEC, P.O. Box 398, Bristol, IN 46507; or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. In keeping with Beverly's wishes, cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Service under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
