ELKHART - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Zonker, 85, of Elkhart, passed away at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital of natural causes.
She was born in Elkhart on Sept. 17, 1925, to Raymond and Bessie (Fetters) Fawley, who preceded her in death, along with her husband of 62 years, Ralph E. Zonker, who died in Elkhart in 2002, as well as two sons, David and Ralph Zonker Jr.
Surviving is a son, Randy (Tami) Zonker; two daughters, Margaret (Gordon) Daugherty and Doreen (Frank) Miller; and a sister, Helen (Lloyd) Fillio, all of Elkhart. Eleven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild survive, as well.
A graveside service took place at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart with Pastor Jim Fookes of Hillcrest United Methodist Church officiating. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart assisted the family with arrangements. No other arrangements have been planned.
Betty worked in food services within the Elkhart Community School System for many years. She was an avid reader of historical books on the subject of the founding of our country, as well as a wide variety of other books. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts of all kinds, collecting "Betty Boop" memorabilia and stuffed, lop-eared bunnies and feeding the birds and squirrels that frequented her back yard.
