Obituary
ELKHART — Betty Jean Whittington, 96, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home Sunday, June 26.
She was born July 12, 1919, in Elkhart, to the late John and Ruby (Wetzel) Kentner, and later married John E. Whittington on Oct. 10, 1942. He survives her at home.
Also surviving are her son, John A. Whittington and her granddaughter, Kelley (Dennis) Whittington-Geppert.
She was preceded in death by siblings Rex Kentner, Juanita Garberick and Mary E. Manderfield.
No immediate services have been scheduled.
In accordance with her wishes, Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
Betty worked several years at W.C. Armstrong of Elkhart and was instrumental in the formation of Elkhart's first Girl Scout Troop. She enjoyed crocheting and baking in her free time.
Memorial donations may be given in Betty's name to any local Girl Scout Troop or to the American Heart Association.
