Betty S. (Mills) Irelan, 93, of Elkhart, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 29, 2024. She was born on July 15, 1930, in Elkhart, to the late Albert and Hattie (Young) Mills.
Betty is survived by her sons, William "Bill" (Dialene) and Mike (Linda) Irelan; twin daughters, Linda (Denny) Weltz and Shirley Hershberger; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; friend in Christ and caregiver, Debbie George; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and church family.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard Irelan; son-in-law, David Hershberger; and her siblings.
In accordance with Betty's wishes, cremation has been chosen. Services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 53953 Co Rd 17, Bristol, IN 46507, with a celebration of life service at 11 AM. Pastor Phil Byars will officiate. Billings Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Betty worked as a cook for Cleveland School for many years along with working alongside her husband, Richard, as escort delivery drivers for 20 years until officially retiring in 1970. Betty also was a proud lifetime member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering as a substitute Sunday school teacher for many years.
In her spare time, Betty was notorious for knitting and crocheting blankets and quilts, bringing her and others so much joy.
Betty will best be remembered as a faithful servant to the Lord along with being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
