ELKHART -- Betty J. Howard, 78, of Elkhart, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at the Greenleaf Living Center in Elkhart of natural causes.
She was born May 25, 1932, in Jasper, Ala., to Joe E. and Clara (Harris) Estes, who preceded her in death, along with a daughter, Betty J. York; two brothers, Johnny and Robert Estes; a sister, Mary Estes; and a great-grandson, Collin Wilson.
Surviving are a daughter, Clara A. "Ann" (Phil) Wilson of Elkhart; a son, Elmer H. Howard Jr.; siblings Jack (Jay) Estes, Tony Estes, Lettuce (J.C.) Pruitt, Cindy Estes, Linda Estes and Shirley (Steve) Carr, all of Alabama. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren survive as well.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service on Thursday, April 21, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. Pastor Nancy Stone will officiate and entombment will follow the service in the Peace Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery.
Betty worked at Elkhart Products for more than 42 years as a machinist, retiring in 2009. Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice.
