CASSOPOLIS, Mich. -- Betty L. Benson, 84, of Cassopolis passed away at 4:16 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Ind.
She was born Nov. 24, 1926 in Freemont, Ohio, to Clayton A. and Lillian B. (Fausey) Smith-Fuller.
On Oct. 18, 1942, she married Jack O. Benson of Union, Mich. He passed away on Aug. 5, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Richard L. (Louise) Benson of Fort Worth, Texas and Bradley O. (Judy) Benson of Cassopolis; one daughter, Joyce E. (Jim) Dorrier of Cassopolis; two brothers, Bruce A. (Carol) Smith of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Eugene L. (Donna) Smith of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Betty worked for many years in and around the Elkhart area. She retired in 2004 after working at the COA in Cassopolis.
She was a lifetime member of the Cass County Conservation Club in Union. She joined a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in 1979 and was still active in that organization. She was also a member of the Mottville Bible Church, having joined in 2000.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from 4 until 7 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, Elkhart. Michael Bender, pastor of Mottville Bible Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Plum Grove Cemetery in Union.
