ELKHART -- Bernice Luciele Albaugh, 96, of Elkhart, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 14, 2009) in Golden Living Center.


She was born Sept. 23, 1912, in New Carlisle to Charles and Bessie (Jones) Wykoff. On Oct. 29, 1939, she married Elmer H. Albaugh in New Carlisle. He died Oct. 8, 1986.


Mrs. Albaugh is survived by one daughter, Delenne (Kevin) O'Connor of Bristol; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant and Clarence Wykoff; and her sister, Ruth James.


Mrs. Albaugh worked in the element section at CTS from 1955 until she retired in 1975. She had worked as a beautician for several years and was a member of DAR, Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge and St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Bristol. Along with her husband and daughter, she took communion to area nursing homes for seven years.


She volunteered at ADEC and studied voice at Princeton (N.J.) University.


Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A rosary service will be at 6 p.m. today. Friends may call for a half hour prior to Saturday's 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's. The Rev. Robert VanKempen will officiate. A meal will follow at the church, after which burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery, New Carlisle.
