ELKHART — Bernadette F. Stauffer, 68, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away early Thursday morning, July 25, 2013, at her home.
She was born June 5, 1945, in South Bend to the late Adam J. and Sophie C. (Czaplinski) Brodzinski.
In addition to her parents, a sister, Mary Jane Micinski, and brother, Billy J. Brodzinski, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Timothy A. (Bethany) Stauffer, and grandson, Andrew, of Elkhart; a daughter, Kimberly A. Stauffer, and grandson, Slate D., of Tampa, Fla.; and her brothers, Adam J. (Barbara) Brodzinski and David (Barbara Ann) Brodzinski, both of Edwardsburg, Mich.
Bernadette retired in 2010 after working for Jessen Manufacturing Co. for 15 years as its office supervisor/bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Bernadette had a big heart. She volunteered her time, talents and energy to helping those in need, but her biggest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and being there for her family. She also loved to garden and enjoyed many activities with the St. Thomas Catholic Solitares.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, with visitation beginning a half-hour prior. The Rev. Bill Sullivan will officiate. Burial will follow in Edwardsburg Cemetery, Edwardsburg. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorials may be given to St. Thomas.
