Obituary
ELKHART —. Benny Joe Wheeler, 66, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Golden Living Center on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 pm following an extended illness.
He was born in Elkhart on Aug. 28, 1949 to the late James and Betty Jo (Davis) Wheeler. He later married Donna J. Ellis on June 30, 1997 in Elkhart. She survives him at home.
He is also survived by his sons Daniel and Joseph Wheeler of Elkhart; daughter Christina Wheeler of Canton, MS; stepchildren John Ellis of Elkhart and Robyn (Joe) Colassaco of Edwardsburg, MI; brother Jim (Debbie) Wheeler of Edwardsburg, and 23 grandchildren. A brother, Michael Christner, precedes him in death.
A celebration of Benny's life will be held at DAV 19, 1205 Middleton Run Road, Elkhart, on Sat., Jan. 23, 2016 at 12:00 noon. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting with arrangements.
Benny worked at Skyline for over 20 years. He was then the maintenance man for the Outlook Apartments. He recently graduated from Ivy Tech with a degree in Applied Science. He was a decorated US Army veteran, serving honorably in Korea during the Vietnam Era.
