BRISTOL — Barbara A. Winer of Bristol passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, after an extended illness.
She was born June 4, 1931, in Goshen to Walter and Elizabeth (McKibbin) Oklitz.
On May 7, 1949, she married Joseph (Sam) Winer in Indianapolis. In addition to her husband, other survivors include three sons, Joseph M. (Becky) Winer and James Jay (Charlotte) Winer, both of Elkhart, and Patrick (Cathy) Winer of Orland Park, Ill.; daughter-in-law Pam Winer of Tampa, Fla.; sister Linda (Dr. David) Williams of Southern Pines, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ray Winer; and two sisters, Jacqueline Habegger and Cathy Seat.
Barbara was a very successful Realtor, serving the entire Elkhart County area. She was a member and Vestry member (1988) of St. John's Episcopal Church, Elks Lodge 425 and Elks Ladies. She belonged to the Junior Women's Club, taught bridge at the YMCA and modeled clothes for different charities. She enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. Barbara was an inspiring woman who loved her family very much. She was very youthful and enjoyed being active. Her favorite rides at the amusement park were the roller coasters. Barbara loved adventure and was always willing to help others. She was a very loving and caring wife and mother.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 1 p.m. memorial service on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Father Daniel Repp of St. John's Episcopal Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or the Center for Hospice Care.
