Barbara E. Williams, 71, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Esthers House in Elkhart. She was born in Missouri on May 26, 1955, to the late Earnel and Beverly Jean (Thayer) Tyrya.

Barbara is also preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Smith; brother, Thomas “Tommy” Tyrya; and step-sister, Virginia Brewer. She is survived by her sister, Gloria (Jack) Neff and their child, Mar’eh Duffield; and uncle, Jim Thayer of Goshen.

Memorial service will take place at a later date. Cremation will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. Memorial donations may be given to the family.

Barbara was a fiercely independent woman who served proudly in the United States Air Force. She worked for many years as a tow truck escort. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching T.V. while relaxing with her lovable cat companions, Little Bit, Buddy, and Precious. Barbara will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends.
