We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Barbara Elizabeth Vargo, 78, of Elkhart, Indiana. She went to meet the Lord on April 21, 2026, following her long battle with dementia. Born in Detroit, MI, she was the 2nd of 7 children to Bill and Delores O'Brien. After marrying the love of her life Frank, she raised her family in Elkhart, IN. She dedicated herself to St. Thomas parish, a long career with Eastwood Elementary School, and many special lifelong friendships. Barb loved taking walks with Frank at Lake Michigan, organizing family gatherings, laughing with her siblings, sitting around a fire at night, keeping a tidy garden, and a good burger. She also loved to collect. She is survived by her husband Frank, three children, many loving grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren, and all of her siblings. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed. Her love for Frank and their 55-year marriage are an inspiration to many. Visitation and viewing will be held at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart, IN on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. with a rosary recitation at 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11am at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 North Main Street, Elkhart, IN 46514. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Elkhart.
