Barbara Jean Douglas, 83, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Esther’s House, Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 28, 1942, to the late Frank and Catherine (Borneman) Walters.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dean Douglas; children, Deniese (Mark) Exner, Debbie (Tom) O’Donnell, and Stacy (Erik Korzilius) Douglas; grandchildren, Shelly (Drew) Colip, Sara (Nick) Capron, Katie Jo (Joey) Marino, William (Jocelyn) Exner, Mary Grace (Mike) Thomas, and Michael (Katie) Exner; 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mike Douglas; and sisters-in-law, Cathy (Joe) Barkman, Marian (Dean) Hammontree, and Pam (Rick) Green.

In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart, IN. A service will follow at noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity of your choice in Barbara’s honor.

Barbara was a loving mother and grandmother whose legacy in life was the family that she built. She enjoyed her career in banking and real estate. She was part of the welcome wagon committee and enjoyed making new residents feel welcome to the neighborhood. Barbara was a people person and had a witty sense of humor. She had a great love of nature and enjoyed working in her gardens. Barbara also had a fondness for dogs and had several of her own throughout her life that she cherished. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.
