ELKHART -- Barbara A. Britton, 64, of Elkhart, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday (May 28, 2009) in Elkhart.
She was born Jan. 16, 1945, in Mishawaka to Francis Ralph and Mary Alair (Hunt) Howland. She married Jerry Britton in Elkhart on Oct. 3, 1964.
He survives along with one son, Tom (Deb) Britton of Elkhart; two daughters, Chris (Slimane) Khaoucha of Goshen and Steph (Dwayne) Fahrenkrog of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Phil Howland of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Hope Marie Fahrenkrog.
Mrs. Britton was a cafeteria worker at Mary Beck Elementary School, North Side Junior High School and Osolo Elementary and a kitchen manager at Pinewood Elementary. She was a bus driver for Elkhart Community School Corp from 1998 to 2005. She had also been employed at Don's Printing in Elkhart.
She was a 1963 graduate of Elkhart High School and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
She enjoyed line dancing, bingo and spending time with her family.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, with a vigil service there at 4 p.m. Calling is also for half an hour prior to Monday's 10 a.m. funeral service at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church. The Rev. Bill Sullivan of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
