GOSHEN -- Barbara Anne Barnes, 77, of Stone Court, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 25, 2008) in her daughter's home.

She was born June 7, 1931, in Anderson to John and Anne (Galloway) Rowe. On June 24, 1951, she married Hazen E. Barnes in Elkhart. He died in 2000.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by two daughters, Cyndi (Randy) Judd of Goshen and Vicki (Dale) McKeown of Covina, Calif.; one son, Mike (Dianne) Barnes of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Barnes retired in 1991 as an office manager from Fred Wright & Son Construction Co., Elkhart. She was co-owner of Barnes Supply Co. and The Gate House, an antique store, both in Elkhart. She was a published poet and had received many literary awards for her writings. She was an avid science fiction fan.

Mrs. Barnes loved going to the boat and decorating her home at Christmas, her favorite time of year. She was a 1949 graduate of Steinmetz High School, Chicago, and a member of River Oaks Community Church.

Friends may call two hours prior to the 6 p.m. funeral service Wednesday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Scott Tilley of River Oaks Community Church, Elkhart, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
