ELKHART -- Awatef Shafik "Linda" Scheretie, 67, of Elkhart died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday (June 3, 2010) at the Treasure Island County Park in Elkhart after an apparent accidental drowning.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, on Feb. 28, 1943, she later married Paul George Scheretie there on Oct. 27, 1994. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Surviving are four stepsons: Adel Scheretie of Atlanta, Raymond (Hannan) Scheretie of Edwardsburg, Mich., and George (Belinda) and Emerson (Elicia) Scheretie, both of Elkhart. A brother, Atef Shafik, and several sisters still reside in Egypt. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive as well.

Friends may call one hour before the 11 a.m. Tuesday funeral service at Billings Funeral Home. Members of the Elkhart Salvation Army will officiate, and burial will follow services at Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen .

Linda was a homemaker most of her life, but also worked as a volunteer for the Elkhart Salvation Army.

Billings Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, and memorials may be made to the Elkhart Salvation Army.
