ELKHART — Ava Marie Hoffman, 80, of Elkhart, formerly of St. Joseph, Mich., passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Eastlake Terrace in Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Scharbow, East Germany, to Frederick and Emily (Geurtel) Schroeder. In 1952, she immigrated to the United States from Germany.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine (Ron) Silc of Elkhart; two sisters, Anne (Dave) Williams of St. Joseph and Brigitte (Richard) Kiessling of Olivet, Mich.; two brothers, Hans (Susie) Schroeder of St. Joseph and Fritz (Janna) Schroeder of Wellington, Nev.; two grandsons, Aaron and Ryan Silc of Chicago; six nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a longtime special friend and companion, Goldhart Pfeiffer.
Ava was employed at Burch Printing in St. Joseph for approximately 10 years, and prior to that she was employed at Lake Michigan College as a cafeteria manager for several years.
Cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County or St. Joseph Senior Citizen's Center.
